Materials

As with any workshop heavy on making things, we'll need lots of stuff! Some of that stuff we can provide, and some we need to ask you to bring.

Bring

Primarily, we expect that participants who are planning to hack wiimotes bring their own wiimote and/or extension controller. We'll have some extras on hand in case of disasters or lost bags, but it won't be enough for everybody.

If you can bring a laptop, that's also really helpful.

Several participants have offered to bring arduinos, conductive fabrics, and other helpful materials. To those offers, we're replying with an enthusiastic YES! (You might want to stick your name on your things, though, to avoid any confusion.) We will have a few Arduinos and other tools kicking around but with so many of us coming, the more materials the merrier. We'll all be happy to sample each others favorite crafting materials. And it's probably impossible to have too many Arduinos in a room full of hackers.

Borrow

The s-lab, where we're working, is pretty well equipped, so soldering irons, sewing machines, embroidery machines, wire cutters, oscilloscopes, glue-guns, and tri-wing screwdrivers will be available.

We are stocked with basic components: pots, switches, resistors, voltage regulators etc. You're free to use these bits and bobbles, but if you use a lot of anything, please keep track and let us know so we can help our kind hosts restock when the wiikend is over.

We'll also have 2-3 PCs with Arduino and Processing installed, and a couple Bluetooth adapters that have been approved by WiiBrew. We're looking at getting glovepie and/or wiiuse, and if you have any suggestions for software that you've used before to get wiimotes playing with custom apps on your PC, let us know and we'll install.
